Welcome to the blog (or Who am I?)
Who am I? A question for the ages. Asked by most, if not all, of us. Answered with certainty by few, if any, of us. Sometimes we ask others to answer this question for us, or perhaps others answer it for us without our asking. Shakespeare’s King Lear quizzically opines “Who is it that can tell me who I am?” Descartes answers us more abstractly but doesn’t give us much to hold onto with “I think therefore I am.” In the Book of Exodus, Moses gets the best and deepest answer from God in the burning bush “I AM WHO I AM.” Even this answer we’ve spent thousands of years (and still are) trying to sort this out. As for myself, I have tried many ways to answer that question.
Husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and puppy papa.
Friend, mentor, and mentee.
Student/trainee (for far too long) and learner (gratefully lifelong).
Clinical oncologist (big city and small town), cancer immunology researcher (biotech and academic), and medical educator.
Basketballer and autograph collector.
Bass guitar player and singer.
Amateur mixologist.
Reader, hiker, traveler, seeker.
Faithful and faith-filled, spirited and spiritual, not so graceful but praying to be filled with grace.
And many more things.
Ever wake up and wonder if in the midst of all your “becomings” and accomplishments, that you’ve lost touch with who you once were…or perhaps, who you thought you would be?
“Who am I?” is something we should all be asking ourselves regularly, as we try to make sense of a confusing world.
The musings in this blog will be the humble reflections of a fellow seeker trying to answer this question, exploring medicine, science, cancer, faith, nature, things of the Spirit, gratitude, challenging ideas, and anything else that sparks an interest. Who am I? Who are you? Come join me on this journey and let’s find out together!
